Tidy up your Spices

Since starting my professional organizing journey, I have been trying to find the best spice storage system. Full disclosure: I have many spices, seasonings, and baking extracts, and I can never find what I need in the heat of the moment.

Everyone has a different setup for storing spices in their kitchen. I have discovered that some people have a cabinet, whereas others use a drawer. I prefer something other than countertop spice carousels, as I want to keep my counters minimalistic.

There are apparent benefits of organizing your spices in a drawer:

  1. You can see what you have

  2. Your spices are at your fingertips

I will share my story of organizing in a cabinet for this blog. Cabinet storage is more challenging because, inevitably, things will get hidden.

I purchased The Everything Organizer Expanding 3-tier Organizer at the Container Store. It's a perfect solution for organizing pantry cabinets. It adjusts to the width of the cabinet and provides the visibility and accessibility you need for your various bottles.

I decided to stop keeping my spices in plastic and switched to glass bottles. After thorough research, I purchased the Aozita 24-piece glass spice jar set from Amazon. The set included 24 square spice jars, shaker lids, metal caps, waterproof labels, and a funnel to make refilling easy. I love the square shape of the bottles, as they all stand neatly on my shelf.

I can't do anything about the issue of hidden spices in a cabinet. However, I can find things much faster with the handy labels I applied to the sides and tops of the glass jars.

While organizing my cabinet, I discarded many expired products. I wanted a system for tracking my spices and their expiration dates. Thank you to “My Productive Life” on Etsy. Her pantry inventory spreadsheet is perfect; I give it a 5-star review.
